Shea Heilman
B.S. Biology, Temple University
My current project focuses on determining the molecular underpinnings of retinal defects in zebrafish deficient for the tet2 and tet3 enzymes that facilitate the conversion of methlyation marks on DNA to hydroxymethylation. I am using single-cell RNA sequencing and a variety of techniques to better understand the role that these enzymes play during retinal development.

Si Chen, MD
MD Central South University, Xiangya School of Medicine
My current project focuses on using the zebrafish as a model to identify neuroprotective pathways that preserve retinal ganglion cells after injury. These pathways are attractive targets around which therapies for glaucoma could be developed.
